Yala Peak Climbing

Yala Peak (5800m) is part of the Langtang range, in the central part of Nepal, north of Kathmandu. Kyanjin Gompa (3749m) in Langtang Valley is the base camp for Yala Peak. It is considered one of the easier trekking peaks in Nepal and therefore a very good beginner’s climb.

To access Yala Peak we follow the Langtang trekking trail to Kyanjin Gompa, where we spend several days acclimatising through day hikes on surrounding mountains. Our high camp for the climb will be at approx. 4800m. From the summit of the peak we’ll have an excellent view of Shishapangma (8046m, Tibet’s only 8000m mountain), the Langtang mountain range, Dorje Lakpa, the fluted Gangchempo and many other mountains.

As Yala Peak is non-technical and relatively easy, it can also be attempted by beginners and less experienced climbers. Some basic ice climbing skills and familiarity in using crampons, ice axe and rope are useful but can also be learnt on the spot. It is a good option for a first Himalayan climb.
