Peak Climbing

The Nepal Himalayas offer over 1500 peaks above 5000m. For a number of small-scale peaks, the Nepal Mountaineering Association has been having the authority to issue climbing permits since 1978, permits for other peaks are issued by the Government of Nepal.
Peak climbing is usually done in combination with a trek in the area, like in the Everest, Annapurna or Langtang region. Mera Peak, Island Peak, Lobuche Peak, Pokalde Peak and Nirekha Peak in the Everest region; Yala Peak in the Langtang region; Larke North Peak in the Manaslu region; and Pisang Peak, Chulu West & East Peaks, Tent Peak and Thapa peak in the Annapurna region are the most popular climbing peaks in Nepal.
While a good fitness level is a must for all peak climbs, the prior climbing experience is not necessary for some of the easier peaks.
