Langtang Region Trekking

The Langtang region Trekking in the North of Kathmandu and bordering Tibet is protected as Langtang National Park. Approx. 4500 people live inside the national park area, most of them Tamangs and some Sherpa. Climatically, the park area covers a number of different zones, from sub-tropical to alpine. It is therefore home also to a diverse flora and fauna.
The area offers several different trails, with spectacular mountain views of Himalchuli (7893m), Mananslu (8156m), Ganesh Himal (7406m), Langtang Lirung (7246m) which is the highest point in the region itself and many other mountains. Apart from some smaller peaks the park contains a number of glaciers and high altitude lakes, including the Gosainkunda lakes which are sacred to Hindus. The Langtang valley is also referred to as the valley of glaciers due to the numerous glaciers in the region. As it is visited by fewer tourists than the Everest or Annapurna region, its uniqueness has been better preserved. Aside from the region's natural beauty and imposing scenery, visitors can explore the culture and lifestyle of the Tamang people.
